For researchers, editors and universities

Every reference in your manuscript, read against the paper it cites.

Velydian opens each cited paper and checks whether it supports the sentence that cites it: the figures, the direction of the finding, and how strongly the authors stated it.

Free trial, no card needed.

  • Cited or not. Every claim checked, and stronger sources found where the evidence is weak.
  • A record you can keep. Annotated document, audit trail and exports, in minutes.

“Smith et al. demonstrated that the intervention reduces anxiety.”

What the source says
“These results suggest a possible association and warrant confirmation in larger samples.”

Cited paper, Discussion

The paper reports an exploratory association. The manuscript reports it as a demonstrated effect.

What it catches

Six things that go wrong in manuscripts.

Each one with the claim, the passage Velydian reads, and the verdict. Examples for illustration.

An association reported as an effect

“Smith et al. demonstrated that the intervention reduces anxiety.”

“These results suggest a possible association.”
Needs Revision

Exploratory, reported as demonstrated.

A sample size that drifted

“In a trial of 840 adults…”

“We enrolled 84 adults.”
Needs Revision

The cited trial enrolled 84 adults.

A subgroup stated for everyone

“The drug reduced mortality.”

“Mortality was reduced in patients over 65; no difference overall.”
Not Supported

The overall result was null.

The finding reversed

“Exercise worsened sleep quality (Lee 2021).”

“Exercise improved sleep quality.”
Not Supported

The cited paper found the opposite.

A reference that does not exist

“(Martin & Okafor, 2022, J. Appl. Cogn.)”

No paper with these authors, year and journal could be found.
Unverifiable

Flagged before submission, not after peer review.

A press release where the paper exists

“A university report found a 30% rise.”

The press release cites a peer-reviewed paper that reports the 30% rise.
Supported

Supported. The paper is offered as the source to cite.

Not another fact checker

Not just right or wrong. Supported or not.

Velydian checks the figures in each citing sentence. It also weighs what the manuscript does with the paper: the conclusion it draws and how strongly it states it. A figure can be right and the sentence can still claim more than the study shows.

One claim, three levels · illustration“Mindfulness training reduces anxiety by 30% (Smith et al., 2021).”Needs RevisionSource: the paper the manuscript cites. Example for illustration.
  1. Level 1

    Facts

Sample sizes, effect sizes, percentages and quotations, checked against the cited paper.

Does the paper report 30% or 3%?

Velydian findsSupportedThe 30% reduction is in the paper’s results.A citation check stops here: true.
  2. Level 2

    Interpretation

Whether the finding supports the sentence: association or cause, subgroup or everyone.

Does the design support a cause?

Velydian findsStretchedThe paper compared one group before and after, with no control group. It does not show the training caused the fall.
  3. Level 3

    Judgement

Whether the statement is as strong as its evidence, and what was left out.

Does other evidence qualify this conclusion?

Velydian findsOverstatedA larger controlled trial since then, in a similar population with the same outcome, found no difference. The manuscript cites only the first paper.Verdict: Needs Revision. The figure is right; the sentence claims more than the study can show.

How it works

Upload the manuscript. Every citing sentence comes back with its evidence.

PDF, Word, text or Markdown, or paste it in. Velydian finds each citing sentence and claim and checks it in one of three ways.

Against the papers it cites

When a sentence cites a paper, Velydian opens it and checks the figures, the direction of the finding and how strongly the authors put it.

Statements with no citation

Velydian searches research databases, official websites and the wider web, keeps the strongest sources and checks the statement against them.

Against your own files

Attach the PDFs of paywalled papers, your data tables or the protocol, and every sentence is checked against them. You see the price before it starts.

Three layers of checking

Surface tools check that a source exists. Velydian reads it.

Layer 1

Distortions and inaccuracies

Figures that drift, populations that change, a finding quietly strengthened.

A sample of 84 reported as 840.

Layer 2

Bias and fabrication

References that do not exist, a paper that found something else, and what was left out.

A reference that cannot be found under its authors, year and journal.

Layer 3

Stronger sources

When a sentence rests on a summary, Velydian looks for the paper itself.

A press release is flagged, with the peer-reviewed paper offered instead.

One verdict per claim

Four verdicts, each with its evidence.

Supported

The paper checked backs the sentence as written.

Needs Revision

Close, but a figure, the population or the strength of the finding does not match the paper.

Not Supported

The paper does not back the sentence, or finds something different.

Unverifiable

No text could be read or found that settles it, for example a paywalled paper you did not attach, or a reference that does not exist.

Open any verdict to see the passage and the reasoning behind it. Correct a line or swap a source and it is checked again. Velydian weighs the evidence; the authors decide what to change.

  1. Drop the manuscript inPDF, DOCX, TXT, MD or pasted text.
  2. Every citing sentence is checkedAgainst the cited paper, your own files or independent sources.
  3. Review and correctFix a sentence or swap a reference; it re-checks.
  4. Take the resultAnnotated manuscript, verification dossier, executive summary, CSV/JSON exports.

Questions

Before your first manuscript.

What about paywalled papers?

Velydian reads open-access papers and public pages directly. For a paywalled paper, attach the PDF as your own file and the claim is checked against it.

Does it detect AI-written text?

No. It checks whether each claim is supported by its source, whoever wrote it. A fabricated reference shows up as one that cannot be found.

Can journals use it at intake?

Yes. An editor can run a submitted manuscript and see every citing sentence with its verdict and evidence before sending it to review.

Where do the sources come from?

Three places. The sources your document cites; sources Velydian finds on official websites, research databases and the wider web for claims without a citation; or your own files, if you attach them.

What happens to my document?

When you run a check, your document’s text is sent over an encrypted connection to our servers and AI services in Switzerland and the EU. To find evidence, short search queries built from your claims are sent to web and scholarly search services. Your document’s content and results are deleted automatically about 24 hours after your check; source links and summary data are kept.

Which languages does it check?

English is measured and in daily use. German and French are in validation.

Can I rely on Velydian as my only check?

Velydian supports human review. It shows the evidence behind every verdict so you can decide. In high-stakes work, expert judgement stays essential.
